The Gainesville Food System Coalition has existed since 2019 as an egalitarian group without a lead agency. Depending on leadership and participation, the group functions have evolved. Around 2023, the Food System Coalition disbanded due to a loss of leadership. However, towards the end of 2024, the leadership of Latashia Mayze-Brimm revived the Food System Coalition. Our new coalition mission is to improve food justice in the North Central Florida community by bringing together diverse stakeholders to work together to address both pressing and systemic food system issues. By bringing diverse stakeholders together, we reduce silos, increase collective capacity, and improve coordinated community response. After a few monthly meetings, we are still gaining our bearings and finding renewed purpose with the community. So please stay tuned for updates.
