The Gainesville Food System Coalition has existed since 2019 as an egalitarian group without a lead agency. Depending on leadership and participation, the group functions have evolved. Around 2023, the Food System Coalition disbanded due to a loss of leadership. However, towards the end of 2024, the leadership of Latashia Mayze-Brimm revived the Food System Coalition. After a few monthly meetings, we are still gaining our bearings and finding renewed purpose with the community. So please stay tuned for updates. What we do know is that those of us doing food access and food justice work in our community need to work together to build collective capacity, and we must do so in a just and equitable manner.
